3 things which made me smile

These 3 things all made me smile yesterday. First was my yummy purple convers, together with bright colour-pop turquoise jeans, and my cute as a button trench coat. Next was the slightly mad red leaves in the front garden- they do know it's not autumn? And finally it was the open sign for one of the many, many cafes around me. Great idea, simple rustic, and perfect!!

Remake a folder

This is super easy! Simply take an old, clear or coloured folder, a bottle of tacky glue, a paintbrush, a load of fabric scraps and a few vintage buttons. Spread the glue over a bit of the folder, using the paintbrush (so much easier than squeezing it out!), and stick down a few of the fabric scraps. Repeat until you've covered the whole folder. At this point you could cover it in sticky back plastic if it's going in a schoolbag or leave it be if you like the textures of the fabric. Stick one large button in the centre of the front- decorative, but also to remind you which side the front is, since it's pretty hard to tell. get smaller buttons, in all different shapes and colours, then stick them down the spine. Leave it to dry and you're finished!

More projects with book pages

Today I want to show you some of the projects I've been working on using an old book. I really love the look of yellowed old book pages- kind of sad, that they are in disrepair, but also the perfect material for making things for booklovers!

 These bookmarks are really easy to make- just cut out a rectangle of card, cover it with scraps of old book pages, punch a hole through the top, thread a ribbon through and tie a nice big secure knot.









The bunting is a little trickier. I designed it with a union jack (should be union flag, I know, but union jack just sounds better) because of the upcoming jubilee and union jacks are a popular design right now.

Basically, to make one flag, cut out 3 triangles from the book pages the same size, wash 2 with watercolour paint- one red and one blue. Cut out a diagonal cross from the plain triangle, and stick it onto the blue. Cut out a normal cross from the red and stick it on top.

Make about 9 or 10 flags, then thread a needle with ine ribbon, and stich your way along the row. Tie knots at both ends and blutack up. Done!

Bookpaper-bead necklace

This necklace uses old book pages as paper for beads. I got the project from Kirstie Allsop Craft, and it's great for any booklover! You can also use different paper for a different feel- make one to match your outfit. I made this from an old copy of arabian nights that has been nicely yellowed by age. I think it looks much nicer than stark white new pages. Hope you like it!

Owl bags and tie purses

The owl bag is from a stall in the whitstable harbour, and I made the tie purse myself.
